Epilepsy Alliance America representatives attended the Annual Meeting of the American Epilepsy Society in Orlando, Florida on December 1-4, 2023.  Board members, member organizations, and members of the National Professional Advisory Committee had the opportunity to attend the meeting.

It was educational, informative and impactful and a great opportunity to be together IN PERSON!

National Professional Advisory Committee Meeting: Saturday, December 2, 2023

Epilepsy Alliance America National Professional Advisory Committee members: Orlando, Florida – December 2, 2023

The National Professional Advisory Committee (NPAC) of Epilepsy Alliance America is composed of epilepsy experts across a wide range of medical disciplines. The NPAC formed in 2021 and meets virtually on a quarterly basis. The NPAC leads and advises the Board of Directors on program policy and development. The NPAC ensures that we make accurate judgments about whether programs are focused and effective, caring and responsive, well led, and based on sound, scientific, and evidence-based data that considers the needs of people living epilepsy and those who care for them.

Members of the NPAC and members of the Epilepsy Alliance America Board of Directors were able to meet in person in Orlando.  As with all meetings – virtual gets the job done – but nothing beats an in-person get together!

UNDER THE LIGHTS: Miles Levin

Friday night, Epilepsy Alliance America representatives had the opportunity to attend a reception hosted by UCB, one of the founding sponsors of the Seizure Action Plan Coalition. UCB featured Miles Levin’s short film, Under the Lights, and announced the exciting news that they are funding the majority of the production of the feature-length movie, scheduled to shoot in Spring, 2024. Representatives from Epilepsy Alliance America had time to talk to Miles and learn more about the project and brainstorm ways Epilepsy Alliance America and our member organizations can help raise awareness (and yes, funds) to make this dream production a reality. Stay tuned for the official launch of the campaign in January 2024.

Epilepsy Alliance America Meets Thousands of Attendees and Vendors

Epilepsy Alliance America representatives interacted with thousands of attendees at AES. It was great to meet health care providers, industry leaders, and other patient advocacy group leaders.

This year Epilepsy Alliance America hosted two booths, one for Epilepsy Alliance America and one to spread awareness about the Seizure Action Plan Coalition. We are proud to be positioned next to our founding member organization, Epilepsy Alliance Florida, and their DYANAMIC and interactive booth.

Congratulations to AES award winners, and Epilepsy Alliance America supporters, Mary Anne Meskis and Bruce Hermann, PhD. Mary Anne Meskis, Executive Director of member organization, The Dravet Syndrome Foundation, received the 2023 Extraordinary Contributions in the Field of Epilepsy Award.  Bruce Hermann, PhD, member of Epilepsy Alliance America’s National Professional Advisory Committee, received the 2023 Founders Award.
